Whittier is located in Los Angeles County, about 12 miles southeast of the City of Los Angeles. The City of Whittier was founded in 1887 as a Quaker colony. As the city grew, the citizens named it after John Greenleaf Whittier, a respected Quaker poet, and deeded a lot to him.
